Every little effort celebrated

YOU PREPARE. THEY FIND THEIR VOICE.

A reassuring start,
one step at a time.

You don’t need to plan a lesson. The app guides you through a short setup, then helps your child practise asking for help.

YOUR PRACTICE PLAN01 / 03

A familiar place to begin

Pick a scenario, such as a fall at home, or set your own scene with familiar clues for your child to notice.

Your scene. Their little discoveries.

THE HEART OF MY FIRST 999

More than learning
three buttons.

Practise finding the words
to ask for help.

The app introduces the scene, then moves into a simulated UK 999 conversation: choosing a service, describing what happened and sharing clues about where help is needed.

  • A spoken introduction with replay and skip
  • A switchboard voice, then a service call handler
  • Spoken replies on supported devices, or answer buttons
  • Optional practice answering a simulated callback

An educational rehearsal, guided by you. Real call handlers may ask different questions and will guide the caller.

A little moment to feel proud.

Detective badges celebrate having a go. After a completed practice call, a grown-up can choose to share or print a certificate.

FOR THE GROWN-UPS BEHIND THE BRAVERY

You know your child.
Start where they are.

A calm conversation together is a good place to begin.

Keep it short, choose a familiar scene and let your child take their time. They can use buttons, ask to hear a question again or simply say they don’t know.

A few things you might be wondering
01

Prepared by a parent or carer

You choose the scene, check the sound and stay nearby. Adult controls help you manage the experience.

02

Encouragement, not a score

The parent debrief highlights what was practised and suggests a small next step. It isn’t a test of emergency readiness.

03

Something to talk through together

Parents, carers and educators can use the app as a starting point for a supervised conversation—not a replacement for first-aid training.

SMALL LEARNERS. THOUGHTFUL BOUNDARIES.

Practice stays personal.

The app works offline, with no account or in-app analytics. It doesn’t keep call recordings or transcripts. Speech recognition uses on-device processing where supported, with buttons available as an alternative.

A LITTLE REASSURANCE

Good questions.

Can this app call the real emergency services?

No. Every call and callback inside the app is simulated. It does not connect to 999. Never call the real emergency services to test the app. In a real emergency, use your phone’s normal calling function.

Does my child need to know our full address?

You can practise one familiar detail at a time. Home Detective and practice scenes help you talk about your home, street, town and recognisable landmarks. The app encourages saying what you know and being honest when you are unsure.

What if speech recognition isn’t available?

The app needs supported on-device English (UK) recognition for spoken replies. When that isn’t available, or microphone permission is declined, your child can use the on-screen answer buttons. No cloud speech fallback is used.

Can I download it from the App Store?

Not as a finished App Store release yet. You can try the current beta through Apple TestFlight using the link on this page. Install TestFlight on your iPhone, open the beta link and follow Apple’s instructions. Places depend on the testing group’s availability. A grown-up should install and supervise the app.

Is it endorsed by the emergency services?

My First 999 is an independent educational project. No NHS, police, fire service or other emergency-service endorsement is claimed. It is not a dispatch system, clinical assessment or first-aid course.
